On March 10, 2009 the Brighouse project team held their first design charrette and established the following Goals Statements:
- Enable all Learners
- Welcome Every Student
- Policy of “Inclusion”
- Integrated Resources “Packages” = curriculum
- Goal of “Teaching Students to Teach Themselves”
- Promote collaboration between students and students, teachers and teachers, and students and teachers
- Campus should be “inviting” and welcome Community/Parents
- “Building(s) should Build the Community”
- We like to hear the Music in the hallways
- Existing “hallways” are Galleries
- Promote and maintain commitment to the Performing and Fine arts Programs
- Provide a strong connection to the environment
- “Students should understand their building(s)”
- Make the building legible - the building could teach and tell a story
- Sustainable Project Goals - desire to pursue the highest levels of sustainable design, strategies and operations as well as potential for a "District Energy System”
- “Building should convey a Sense of Collaboration”
- Education should be transparent and thereby welcoming
- Promote “Self Directed Learning”
